"What Are We Learning About Today, Bob?"

Please Don't Make Me Cry

There are some movies I pretty much won't watch with other people because I KNOW I will end up crying when I watch them.  I'll watch something it if it makes me cry only some, if I know no one will see me (Fried Green Tomatoes, Hope Floats, Steel Magnolias or The Color Purple) or if it's about baseball (Field of Dreams). It's mostly ones with horses or animals dying in an accident or shootout or fire or some such sillyness. Also, I don't really like ones with super graphic stuff about Jesus or little kids crying, like really, really crying. Sometimes, I won't even watch them with myself.

10. My Girl
9. The Incredible Journey
8. Father of the Bride
7. Schindler's List
6. The Horse Whisperer
5. Bambi
4. Old Yeller
3. Seabiscuit
2. The Black Stallion
1. The Passion of the Christ

Animated Life - I Want To Get Away

Well, it's no secret that I like certain things in an animated version. Unless you didn't know until now. In which case... Surprise! It's what you learned today! (Right, sis? LOL) Today's list includes animated movies, web series and television. I am not opposed to the graphic novel, I just have never really browsed through one more than a time or two. If I can think of any other media forms, I'll include those.

I don't read comics online and since I don't read an actual paper anymore, I pretty much don't read comics anywhere else either. It's kind of sad. I love the extensive use of puns and two dimensional sight gags. The only paper I might pick up once in a while is the local free one and they just have super political things there so I skip them. The ones I remember liking are BC, Family Circle, For Better or Worse and such. They remind me of a simpler time.

I did a google search just to prompt some brainstorming. It came up with a lot of "favorite anime" items. I'm not opposed to anime and/or manga specifically. I just never went beyond watching Voltron after school.

10. Ren and Stimpy
9. Bug's Life - I am a beautiful butterfly!
8.The Simpsons
7. The World of Dr. Seuss
6. The works of Lane Smith
5. Finding Nemo - Just keep swimming...
4. Shrek
3. King of the Hill -  Yes, I have, while watching this show, caught my self saying, "Oh we used to do that when I was a kid!" Like trying to make a "pool" in the back of a pick-up truck.
2. Toy Story - It changed things.
1. Homestar Runner - Totally hilarious and stupid/smart and doesn't make any sense. My very favorite brain break! Now, I just need a tall cool glass of melonade...

There are some other lists that this one made me think of trying. Children's books, cartoon characters, live-action Disney movies and, well, you'll just have to see what pops up. To steal a line from a famous book lover/space engineer...  I'll see ya next time! :)

Christmas At The Movies...

So the Christmas movie season is upon us. I just watched Elf for the umpteenth time. I was watching it with some friends and one had not seen it at all before. I often found myself holding my tongue because I realized that I now know almost all the lines from the movie. I almost spilled the beans more than once. It's almost as much as the amount of lines I know for Top Gun, which, based on the last time I watched it, may also be distracting to others in the room.

So here's the list for my favorite all time movies for the holidays:

10. Nat'l Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
9. Miracle on 34th Street
8. How The Grinch Stole Christmas
7. Die Hard
6. Nightmare Before Christmas
5. A Muppet Christmas Carol
4. A Christmas Story
3. Scrooged
2. White Christmas
1. Elf

I also remember watching and laughing at Ernest Saves Christmas. But that was a long time ago. I haven't seen it lately. I normally don't like Lampoon or Ernest movies too much but these were fine. One through five on the list are a pretty done deal. The last five could negotiate for rank.

Here's the thing...

There are a lot of things you'll learn about me here, like the fact I love Jesus. Yeah, it's true. Been that way since I can remember. But I also live in the real world. I am definitely not 100% from a mold of any particular sort. I try to work out my faith in love, and, of course, mess up quite often. I am pretty sure we've all seen each other in one not so perfect moment or another.

I believe God made a place for us where we can experience great moments of awesomeness, even in its flawed state. The world is full of wonders and wonderful people. I love exploring that. I say that because another thing I do is appreciate (and flaw-fully squawk too much about) how he's created other people and what gifts they use or don't use well. Some of those wonders are seen in people that may not believe or conduct themselves exactly like you or I do.

So just be prepared. You may be challenged. I don't have kids or anything so I don't always focus on filtering for the younger crowd. I may link to a blog that has cussing, love a movie you think is repugnant or type away with an opinion that you might not agree with. That's super! Let's talk it out.

This blog is just me being me. While I'm generally going to just go on sharing about my life, I'm ok with being gracefully challenged by others to really think through what I say. However, I do request that you don't go BUSTIN ' CHOPS about it. Whether said chops are mine or someone else's. People rarely change their mind when yelled at. I've never met a siren with follow through.

Besides, even if you hate Jesus, I still think you are worth the love as truthfully, gracefully and best as I can give it to you.

Avoiding homework...

I have almost exhausted my ideas for avoiding working on m budget this evening. I thought I might try to do that since this is what happened last payday.

I blame the nuns.

(Update 8/2010: I'm not sure what that was all about ORIGINALLY since I deleted most of my photos from my photobucket account. I went a head and replaced it with a picture of a Mary's Pizza Shack house salad with bleu cheese dressing. Because I am craving that today. And I have a few dollars from payday, so I keep thinking about getting one. Hhmmm... maybe for lunch tomorrow?)

Anyhoo, none of those shenanigans for us this time. So after this, it right to the spreadsheet for me. I also want to try out some kind of blog template thing so you can see how things are going at a glance. I wanted to share what I am actually reading/listening to/watching because it might not fall under one of the future blog topics to the left, to the left. So, if I figure it out, you'll see a couple of quick hits at the bottom of each entry.

Enjoy!

Here's to contentment...
:) Amy
